Learn about how to identify and report copyright infringement. This article defines what it is and outlines the steps you need to take.
What is copyright infringement
Copyright infringement occurs when someone uses a copyrighted work without the permission of the copyright holder. Copyright law grants creators rights to control how their original works are used.
Infringement can take many forms, such as illegally downloading music or movies, copying and pasting large portions of text without attribution, using images or videos on a website without permission, or selling unauthorized merchandise featuring copyrighted designs.
