The Master Password is your personal password for accessing your lockers. You will create your Master Password when setting up your NordLocker account. We never store your Master Password neither in the application nor on our servers.
Your Master Password is crucial. Create one that you won’t forget, maybe even write it down and put it somewhere safe, because the Master Password is only for you. And without it, there may not be another way to access your encrypted files.
What's the difference between the Master Password, your Nord Account's password, and the Recovery Key?
As a NordLocker user, you have created an account with an email and a password. Your account holds information about your subscription. Even if you forget your Nord Account's password, we can help you recover it, but not the Master Password.
The Master Password is a part of the encryption key that is used to secure your files. That’s why no one except you can know it. Even when you’re sharing a locker, you never share your Master Password.
Without your Master Password, there is only one other method to open your lockers. That's the Recovery Key. During your registration, you will be given your Master Password's Recovery Key. Make sure to copy it and store it safely.
Make sure you memorize or save your Master Password in a safe place. You won’t be able to access the encrypted files without your Master Password. Don’t share it with anyone.
